At the morning of
the 7th of October, we went early to
Cornellà. For many of the Vastards it was one of the first races
after the summer and many of them did not train so much.
Unfortunately, I could not join, although I would have liked. Next
year from March, I hope to be joining again for some running.
The first person we
met in Cornellà was Guix, who was just coming from a whole night out
and who seriously thought that I was going to run a 10K with only 3
weeks pregnancy to go. I consider it was the lack of sleep that made
him think that. The lack of sleep also made him decide not to run,
but only to come and give some mental support to the Vastards (also a
very important job).
Guix, Maria, Emma
and me were the mental support team for this race. We were positioned
at the beginning of the race, at km 4 and at the end. For many
Vastards it was a tough race and it was clearly visible who had been
training and who had not. The Arnau brothers did very well, it must
be in the genes. Jonnhy and Jordi also did quite well as well, but we
would not have expected anything different from the special forces.
Isaac started ambitiously just behind the 50 minutes balloon, but had
to give in at the last few km. Uri A. did quite well considering that
he just had a half marathon (in Sant Cugat) in his legs from the week
before. The race was closed by Chema, Uri M. and Dani, who just
finished within the hour.
Afterwards, we had
some pica pica at Jordi’s place, an excellent way to recover from a
tough 10K! Just for all of you who would like to make some apple pie
themselves, I have added the recipe:
Take (dough):
300 gram flower (harina de
trigo)
5 grams of
backing powder (= ½ a bag)
150 gram sugar
½ egg (the other
half you will need later)
200 gram cold butter
in pieces (not salted!)
Little bit of salt
4 grams of
vanilla flavored sugar (not essential)
Make a solid dough of
these ingredients and put it for 15-30 minutes in the fridge
Preheat the oven
at 180 degrees Celcius
Take (apple
filling):
1000 gram apples (3 golden
and 2 elstar)
Cut them in small pieces
Add 75 gram sugar
Add a bit of cinnamon
Mix well and put
in the fridge
Take
a round form of 24 cm diameter (springform pan,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springform_pan).
Lubricate the
inside with butter (bottom and sides)
Use ¾ of the dough to
cover the bottom and the sides
Put a bit of pan rallado,
just to cover the bottom
Take the apples, make sure
that you will get rid of the fluid under in the bowl, otherwise the
pie gets too wet
Put the apples in the form
Use ¼ of the dough to put
some stripes of dough on top
Lubricate the top of the
pie with the other ½ of the egg
Bake the pie for 45
minutes at 180 degrees
